How this was made, and why.

Kamino is Solana's largest lending market. Borrowing against your SOL is the first thing most people do there, and it is the one action in DeFi where a design mistake costs real money: a loan that is closed because the price fell is called a liquidation, and it happens to people who never understood where the line was. This is not a teardown. The product is serious and well audited. It is a pass on the three moments where the UI shows ratios instead of consequences.

The audit

Every “before” claim comes from kamino.com as captured on 21 October 2026: the Borrow page, the SOL/BTC market table, the Borrow panel and its Settings. Each capture sits beside the live redesign on the Before / After page. A thread on r/solana from December 2025 counted 1,480 liquidations on Kamino in a month and argued that most borrowers never understood their liquidation price. That number is the brief.

Three principles

Risk is a picture

The price the loan closes at is a line on the price chart. Borrow more and it rises toward today's price. You see the risk before you read it.

Words over ratios

No LTV, no health factor, no liquidation threshold. One bar and one sentence: how far can the price fall before anything happens.

The fix is the button

A warning that only warns is a tooltip. Every alert comes with the one tap that fixes it, and says where the closing price moves to.

The decisions

Choosing

Today: a promo carousel, then 39 markets as tables, the SOL market third and collapsed. Now: two questions, what do you have and what do you need, and the market is chosen from the answers. The table still exists for people who want it, one link deeper.

The amount

Today: Loan-To-Value 0.00% and Liquidation LTV 90.00%, with no sentence about the price that matters. Now: Cautious, Balanced and Max presets, a slider, the closing price drawn on the chart, one safety bar, and the loan restated as a sentence with its monthly cost.

Review

Today: Connect Wallet is the only button. Now: swipe to borrow, then a review step that says what you lock, what you receive, what it costs, how far the price can fall, and the two warnings you will get, in words, before the wallet opens.

Living with the loan

Today: a health number in the portfolio, and a liquidation that arrives as a transaction. Now: one sentence that says how much room is left, warnings at 20% and 10% above the closing price with Add SOL and Repay as the buttons, and a closed loan explained: what was sold, the fee, what you keep.
